Video Producer #7: Interview with The Laughing Gas Zone

1) Would you like to tell us about yourself and your activities?

I’m Joe, the owner of The Laughing Gas Zone, a tickling video company I started with some friends in 1997.

2) In the context of producing tickling videos, what genres of videos do you perceive to be the most popular and requested?

I think basic, “girl next door” tickling is very popular. People like authenticity.

3) What are the difficulties of making tickling videos?

Balancing what you want to do vs what the customer’s want. It is a commercial endeavor and you always have to keep that in mind.

4) What is your impression of erotic tickling online? A small niche or a very large interest?

Moderate size niche. It used to be smaller, but with the advent of the internet, it has grown in size since the 1990s.

5) How do you choose your models? Are there any particular criteria to be respected?

It depends. Sometimes it’s their appearance or a video they’ve done that I liked them in. I generally stick to professional models with some level of experience.

6) What makes your contents different from other tickling video makers?

Story driven with costumes, sets, props etc. It’s a niche sub genre I adopted from the beginning. HOM and CalStar were early pioneers, but when I started producing videos, no one was really doing it in tickling.

7) What professional goals are you proud to have achieved in this area and do you have any goals for the future? 

That I’ve lasted this long! Nearly thirty years and people still buy the videos I create.

8) What are your favorite tickling scenarios to do or get asked about in your videos? 

I’m a sucker for damsels in distress, but most people are.

9) Do you have a particular video that you are proud to have made? 

Not really. I have videos that are the highest earners that don’t matter as much as others I put a lot of production effort into. I enjoy the editing process. Putting it all together.

10) To do video tickling sessions, do you work with ticklish models or not? What are the pros and cons of each choice? 

I always try to. Since I usually hire experienced models, I can look at their work and gauge how ticklish they are (or how well they appear to be ticklish). I mentioned fans like authenticity, but the reality is that models are varying degrees of ticklish from model to model or even the same model from video to video. A lot of things can go into how a model reacts to being tickled. I remember a video from a famous company that had an accidental blooper in it. During the tickling, the model told the director/tickler that if he wanted her to laugh harder during the tickling, to make silly faces. She said it got her giggling every time. So, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make a tickling video.
