One of the crucial characteristics of tickling is the impulse to laugh, which requires great willpower to suppress.
Tickle challenges generally take place as endurance tests of having sensitive body parts tickled. Some TV shows present even more difficult tickle challenges: the goal is not to endure the tickle, but to avoid laughing or even smiling at all costs to avoid losing the contest.
“Silent Library” and “Fist of Zen” are two MTV’s TV shows with a similar format: contendants have to keep silent while they are subjected to bizzarre trials. Some of them are examples of tickle torture.
In an episode of “Silent Library”, a boy is tickled by his friends and has to stay silent for 60 seconds, but he fails and crack at about 40 seconds.
In an episode of “Silent Library”, a boy is tickled by a companion under his armpits while another blocks him. He smiles vigorously but doesn’t laugh.
In an episode of “Fist of Zen” a yellow dressed man (Kamil) has his feet licked by a goat. He smiles visibly but he doesn’t give up and doesn’t laugh.
In an episode of “Fist of Zen” a pink dressed woman (Gabrielle) has her feet licked by a goat. She smiles visibly and wiggles a lot suffering for the tickle, but she doesn’t make sounds.
In an episode of “Fist of Zen” a white and black dressed woman (Raha) has her feet licked by a goat. She open her mouth but she holds back the laughter.
The last episode is not from MTV but by a web show from JustKiddingParty, which has a similar format of silent-tickle challenge.
