Tickling Artists #85: Interview with AraghenXD

1) Do you want to tell us something about yourself and your art?

Do I have to? Lol I kid, I’m AraghenXD. I’m just some goof who enjoys drawing naughty things based on the lewd ideas running through my head.

2) What techniques do you use to draw? Do you have a favorite artist that inspires you?

I always start with pencils and computer paper. Tried the digital sketching route but it wasn’t my thing. Once the sketching’s done, scan it in. There, I use Clip Studio Paint to handle the lines and shading while Photoshop CS5 handles colors and effects. Both programs have their perks and flaws, so I use em both.

3) How much was the passion for drawing born in you? And the one for the tickle?

I’d say the passion for art started very early on. Like, there’s a home movie of my 2nd birthday party. My Dad saw one of my finger drawings and was like, “Damn. Kid’s got a good sense of composition.” Should add my old man, an art school grad, taught me a lot growing up. As for the tickling stuff, that didn’t happen until after I made the move to start drawing fetish imagery in 2012. Feet came first. Tickling second. Artist wise, my biggest influences are Bruce Timm, Glen Keane, Mark Bagley and Tim Burton.

4) What are the tickling scenarios that you prefer to draw?

Personally, I prefer the gentler, teasing, arousing kind. Sure, the all-out laughing scenarios are good but something about the sensual ones just does it for me.

5) What are the aspects of tickling that you intend to represent with your art? Example: the laughing, the wriggling, the relationship between tickler and ticklee?

Truth be told, I never really gave it much thought, or when I do, I overthink. Still, the dialogue is usually something I enjoy, especially if it’s playful, witty banter between the ler and lee.

6) Online there are countless photos and videos of tickling sessions. In your opinion, what do illustrations offer more than images of real life?

Probably the uttermost suspension of reality. More tools and characters to play with.

7) In your opinion, what makes tickling so interesting for fans of this phenomenon?

I’d say it’s the teasing thrill of it all. The rush, perhaps.

8) What are your works of which you are most proud?

I’ve got a few. Most are non-fetish but the “Invisible Woman Escapes” tickle comic I did always makes me both chuckle and cringe. The latter being how much of a pain it was to get that effect to look right, lining everything up, and countless layers.

9) Do you have any particular artistic goals for the future?

There’s still some things I wanna work out via anatomy (trying different poses and angles). Slowly getting there.

10) Do you think AIs will end up enriching or impoverishing the art of tickling representations?

Maybe if it’s used as a tool on top of already existing skills. Think of a singer who uses auto-tune as an effect but not a crutch. Personally, I’d rather keep it well away from art.
